What can I do if I don’t see any classes I like?
- JaxFlow is a non-profit community based group dedicated to teaching the art of prop manipulation and raising awareness about this emerging art form.
What is spinning/prop manipulation?
- Spinning/prop manipulation is a style of expressive dance/ performance art using props. Hooping, juggling, glowsticking, baton, flag twirling, and devil-sticks are common examples of this, though that only scratches the surface of this performance style. The fire performances of Hawaiian and Polynesian cultures are other recognizable examples.
When/Where is JaxFlow?
- JaxFlow officially meets once a month, on the second Saturday, in Memorial Park located at 1620 Riverside Avenue, Jacksonville FL. 32204. Our events begin in the early afternoon and run until late in the evening.
How much does JaxFlow cost to attend?
- Nothing. JaxFlow is absolutely free! Skill toys are provided as well. All you need to bring is yourself and a desire to learn! Our skill toys are available for purchase if you want to take one home, and we do accept charitable donations.
What goes on at JaxFlow?
- JaxFlow is a day of prop manipulation classes, followed by a spin jam with music at night in the park. Classes range from 30-60 minutes, with the schedule and class types being posted here on the site. Schedules vary between summer and winter due to daylight savings, but we typically start classes in the early afternoon and break for an hour around dusk, so that we can rest and get refueled at one of the many restaurants around the Riverside/ 5 Points area. Memorial Park is also a great place for a picnic! Then we meet back up for a spin jam with music, and show off what we learned that day. All skill levels are welcome to perform!
What can I do if I don’t see any classes I like?
- Come out anyway! All of us spin a variety of skill toys, and love to teach. Learning goes on both inside and outside of class!
